Signs that your Bathroom is Outdated

Signs that your Bathroom is Outdated - Image 1

Your bathroom should be your sanctuary – a place of comfort, quiet, and relaxation. This is a room in which you spend time nearly every single day, meaning you should love this space, not hate it.

At some points, it's easy for people to become accustomed to unsightly areas of their homes. This includes the bathroom, since again, it is somewhere that gets daily use.

There is a difference between charming and simply out of date. Some old bathrooms are charming; claw foot tubs, colored tiles, and pedestal sinks can bring an amazing vintage vibe if maintained properly. Other old bathrooms just look sad and out of date.

Not entirely sure where your bathroom stands? Here are some sure signs that it's time to remodel your bathroom and turn it into a place of relaxation and comfort.

Stylistic Relics

If your bathroom has worn down wallpaper, popcorn ceilings, or outdated colors on the wall, it's time for a refresh. If the tiles are chipped or grimy, it's probably time that these get replaced.

Dull brass faucets, plate mirrors, and bathroom fixtures in beige are anything but current--especially when paired with boring old countertops such as rounded, mega-mauve countertops from the 1990s. And, if you've got old oak in your bathroom, there's a good chance it's looking a little worse for wear.

Poor layout

Homes built in the 1920s - 1940s often had the toilet right next to the bathtub, which made sense at the time, when indoor plumbing technology was still limited. Today, this configuration has just become inconvenient. If your toilet is situated right next to the shower, redesigning the layout of your bathroom could improve flow and aesthetics, and sheer usability.

Bad lighting

If you're either blinded by the lights in your bathroom or it's so dim that you can barely see yourself in the mirror, this is a sign you may need to do more than just change the light bulbs. It's time for updated light fixtures. In past years, the trend in bathroom decor was a rack of spherical 'globe' lights over the vanity. If your bathroom's lighting scheme doesn't relax you, it's time to consider a change for the better.

Lack of Storage

A lot of items are stored in the bathroom including toiletries, towels, makeup, and toothbrushes. Storing all of these items requires space and they don't look so great sitting out on your bathroom vanity. Custom built-ins, large vanities, and other remodeling solutions can help you make the most of your small space and make your bathroom look more attractive at the same time. It's easier to relax in your space without clutter overtaking the room. Not to mention, more storage can help you to keep your products organized.

Leaks

Brown rings on your ceiling located directly under your bathroom, around fixtures, or on the walls are a sure sign of leaks. If not addressed, plumbing leaks can rot the wood interiors of your home, leading to bigger repairs than just a bathroom remodel. If this is the case, take the time to put in modern fixtures and update your plumbing.

A bathroom remodel will not only improve your home's value but can also make your day-to-day experience more enjoyable. A serene, calming, and gorgeous space that reflects your personal style will make all the difference.
