Does your roof need to be replaced with a new one?

Don’t wait until you spot a leak in your ceiling, to recognize your roof needs to be replaced. A roof’s typical life span ranges from 20- 35 years depending on whether it is made of asphalt shingles, wood shake, or cement shingles. Here are five signs that your roof needs to be replaced.

  1. Buckling roof shingles. Take a look at your roof under the direct sunlight. If your shingles are curling under or buckling it may be time for a new roof installation. Aging, extreme heat, and moisture can cause damage to your roof.
  1. Discoloration. If you notice a discoloration in your roof it might be caused algae. If the discoloration is not severe your roof may just need to be treated. Otherwise, you will need to replace your roof with algae resistant shingles.
  1. Missing shingles. If your roof has some bald patches and is missing shingles in certain areas or you are finding shingles in your gutter a roof replacement is in your near future. Missing shingles can be caused by wind damage, critters, or a tree branch that is touching your roof. Shingles are laid out in a pattern and if your missing shingles disrupt this pattern, you may experience a leaky roof.
  1. Sagging roof. If your roof is drooping, there is no question that you will need a new roof installation. A saggy roof can be caused by the weight of snow or water damage.
  1. Signs of flashing. Lifting, parting, and dried caulk can be signs that your flashing is damaged. If the flashing is damaged, water is likely to leak into your house and cause destruction.

If these signs apply to your home, you are most likely in need of a new roof. Get your roof installed before the cold winter months hit to prevent further damage to your house.
