At no time is a mudroom more useful than during the summer. With people constantly coming in and out of the house, your mudroom is the perfect place to stop messes in their tracks. With that in mind, has yours seen better days?

Regardless of the source, mudroom messes can be incredibly frustrating, and can require a surprising amount of time to address. Luckily, we have a few ideas that you might find helpful in reducing mudroom clutter.

Starting at the messiest level of the room, consider installing tile flooring. As the kids and dogs run in and out of the house, dirt is bound to collect in the mudroom. Tiles will make the cleanup process much less bothersome, allowing you to clean up quickly and easily.

Next, be sure to make use of the room’s height. Adding shelves above the coat hangers will allow you to keep miscellaneous belongings off the floor, clearing up more space for shoes. Try adding furniture with built-in storage space. Not only will this eliminate clutter but also give some personality to a room that most often times appears bland.
While you’re at it, enhance your mudroom’s appearance even more by decorating the walls. Believe it or not, covering wall space with family photos, calendars or quote boards will give any room a sense of order; making it the perfect final step in rearranging your mudroom.
